The
Dunstan Rangers - Unhugged
"Unhugged"
is a collection of fourteen original songs by the alt-country band, the Dunstan
Rangers. The core members of the band are Paddy Burgin, Chris Nichol and Peter
Parnham. On "Unhugged" they have been joined by Charlotte Yates, Tom
Callwood from the Little Bushmen, and Murray Costello and Martin Durrant from
Let's Planet. The songs adopt the traditional country music themes of lost love,
drinking and men generally not taking responsibility for themselves. They are
also tinged with a suitable amount of irony, so they're not your standard country
fare. The Dunstan Rangers owe their musical style to the likes of Gram Parsons,
John Prine, and Rodney Crowell. Instrumentally "Unhugged" features
guitars, sax, slide guitars, electric and double bass, occasional drums and
a few harmonies.

My
Sweet Town is the brand new CD/DVD that sees Paddy teaming up with Little Bushman's
Tom Callwood, guitarist Justin Clarke and Bruce McNaught on percussion.
Paddy"s brand of urban folk takes us on a journey around
his home city and other parts of New Zealand, to the sound of acoustic and
weissenborn slide guitars , piano, banjo, double bass, percussion and harmonica.
The CD is a collection of twelve songs and instrumentals recorded by the band
in Level Two Studios in Wellington under the guidance of engineer Troy Kelly.
The recording process was as live as possible, with overdubs kept to a bare
minimum.
The DVD features a concert by the band filmed and edited by
documentary maker Costa Botes.
My Sweet Town can be bought on line from www.amplifier.co.nz
or from Slow Boat Records in downtown Wellington.

Ballyscully
Live
Bernard
Wells, Ruiradh Morrison, Andy Linton and Paddy Burgin finally get around to
recording some of the material that has been in their live set at various Irish
pubs around Wellington for a while. Recorded live in the bar at Molly Malones,
this disc includes their most requested song, Inglewood, written by Paddys
brother, Chris Burgin.
Several of Paddys songs are featured on the album, along
with some wooden flutes, concertina, bouzoukis, harmonicas, guitars and bass.
This CD has plenty of aural variety, from the rousing choruses of Inglewood
to Andys unaccompanied whaling song.
